Melissa Sturges, Principal
Melissa leads the strategic planning for numerous SWC clients, drawing upon more than 30 years of experience in public relations including strategic planning, media/community relations, events, crisis management, service/product marketing, and employee communication. Crisis communications is Melissa’s forte, having executed crisis preparedness/risk management programs for dozens of companies. She has worked extensively with businesses in the development, financial, hospitality, manufacturing, medical, non-profit, public utility, and other sectors on crises pertaining to a wide variety of matters including food safety; fraud; influence peddling; labor relations; workplace death, disaster and violence.
Melissa is a past president of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and is a past board member of Jewish Vocational Services (JVS), an organization devoted to helping those with barriers to employment as well as refugees needing resettlement. She is still close to her Big Brothers & Big Sisters “little sister” after more than 25 years. Melissa currently serves on the board of the Worldcom Public Relations Group, the largest global network of independent integrated and public relations firms. In 2002, she was recognized as one of The Kansas City Business Journal’s “25 Women Who Mean Business.” A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Sturges received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia School of Journalism.
